Enhancing Urban Environment by Greening and Landscaping provision,

the China Practice

利用公共空間佈局、行人通道及綠化設施,作為城市環境優化的內容

近年中國的例䅁

 Highlight of Talk:

Sustainable and user friendly environment, efficient connectivity, greening and landscaping provision, public spaces, or the providing of a pleasant cityscape for general public, are some basic context or facilities for modern cities to be provided by concerning governing authorities nowadays. This is a up-rising topic under the area of urban planning.

In the past few decades, cities in particular for those relatively less-developed one in Asian countries including Hong Kong, were not performing satisfactorily in achieving these targets. Japan to certain extent may be an exception. However, as the uplifting of general living standard and the getting better-off economically in many nearby regions especially after the millennium, situation get much improved.

Being engaged in China development studies for more than 20 years, the speaker wishes to share his experience and summarize some observations of his own focusing on this issue. Case illustration based on Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and some other second-line cities of China will be used in this seminar presentation for discussion.
